Cloistered Darts
'It is an old custom with the servants of God always to have some little prayers ready, and to be darting them up to heaven frequently during the day, lifting their minds to God from out of the filth of this world. He who adopts this plan will get great fruit with little pains.'
St. Philip Neri
Nancy, I used to call those arrow prayers; but, this is a wonderful quote because it adds that when we pray like this we are "lifting (our) minds to God from out of the filth of this world. Isn't that the truth : )
ReplyDeleteBlessings always +
I was quite struck by that phrase too, Caroline. Yes, so sadly, it is the truth. And so we keep sending forth the arrows of prayer ....
DeleteOh, I love this. Because sometimes I feel like I get too mired in the day to day things without lifting my thoughts often enough toward God.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Aileen. It seems to be a common theme with many of us.Thank God He knew this, and inspired the practice of aspirations!
DeleteYes, we can not pray too often. I usually pray when I take my daily walks, etc. He loves to hear from us :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terra - indeed He does love to hear from us!
DeleteDarts. I like that!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patty :) !
DeleteI needed to read this today in this life of paradoxes -worry & joy - anxious knowing of the coming storm whilst happily preparing for Advent. Cloistered Darts will be the beginning of necessary repugnance for that which takes me away from Heaven's Door.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and bless you many times over for this post and the blog, Nancy.
I need to remember this too, at this particular time of year. Thank you!
